I’m sitting in northern Indiana, near where I grew up. My sensibilities were shaped here, beginning with the team loyalties that have, in many ways, directed my life. The Chicago teams have dominated my athletic fandom; I was a fan of the Chicago Bears (1985 Super Bowl Champs!), the Chicago Bulls (NBA champions 1991, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98), and of course, the Chicago Cubs…who finally won a championship in my lifetime in 2016.
I’ve learned a lot by being a Cubs fan. Foremost, I have learned the importance of loyalty through thick and thin. Long before I got married, I was learning the value of enduring in a relationship and putting up with foibles that aggravated me. Give this a listen and consider where you have learned loyalty and devotion…even when the cause seemed lost.
