I am a fountain pen, fine stationery, keep-my-thesaurus-handy kind of letter writer. You may be a “find me a napkin and a sharpie” kind of letter writer. It doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you find written words comforting; the space for thinking that writing offers means that when you are done writing, you have created something that MEANS something. Letters are things we create, typically, for one other person, which gives them significance beyond the act of writing them.
Take a minute and make another person the sole focus of your time and thought; that’s what writing a letter does. It will require you to give something of yourself that only that one other person will ever possess. Writing letters means you can CREATE and BE a gift at the same time…and that’s just cool.
