Here’s the thing: a good many things I have learned are embodied in aphorisms. None is more accurate than the topic of this week’s podcast, “junk in, junk out.” I first ran into the idea that outcomes are proceeded by actions of similar quality when I was learning, painfully, to program in the Fortran programming language at Purdue University, back when my conscience was still allowing me to imagine a future as an engineer. Luckily for all of us, advanced engineering math got in the way.
This isn’t to say that I didn’t learn anything from my time as an engineering student. To wit, this nugget of truth; if you can’t be bothered to put in quality work at the beginning of something, don’t be foolish enough to expect something of quality to be produced in the end.
I have had many years and many, many, experiences that have given me time and pause to reflect on this. This week’s podcast is my way of encouraging you to do the same. We’ll see you next week…
